It is the 10th anniversary for the Galaxy S-series and Samsung celebrate it in style in an event in San Francisco. Where it unveiled the latest Galaxy flagship lineup, the S10e, S10, and Galaxy S10+ along with Samsung earbuds and Galaxy fold. The company also introduced the 5G variant which will features a bigger display, bigger battery, and four cameras at the back but they are not going to available for now. Among the three S10 flagship grade smartphones, let’s first meet the most premium smartphone Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus.
Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus detail features
The S10 Plus is the world’s first phone with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor which features a 6.4-inch super AMOLED Infinity-O-display. It is also the first Galaxy S phone with five cameras, including an ultra-wide angle shooter on the back. With the 93.1% screen-to-body ratio, the pixels now stretch from the small top speaker to the thin bottom chin and spread over the curved edges to the left and right. Now, come and check deeply what the Samsung more has filled in the new Galaxy S10 Plus for all its users.
Samsung Galaxy S10 plus design shows some extreme improvements and also hold back some old features.
The aluminum metal frame is sandwiched between both front and back glass but it thinner than the predecessor S9 plus. The S10 Plus is protected by corning gorilla glass 6 both on front and back.
On the back, the cleaner look definitely appreciable, the triple rear camera set up along with LED flash surrounds by subtle camera bump. It is difficult to point out where the reverse wireless charging is exactly located below it. But wherever the tech is implemented, it is going to be very useful.
Up front, the smartphone has a thin upper bezel which houses the earpiece. Now Samsung drills a small cut-out at the top right corner, for the two front-facing cameras to peer out. Due to the small cut-out, Samsung named its display as infinity-O-display which was first introduced by the company in Galaxy A8s.
Under the infinity-O-display, Samsung uses Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint ID technology. Which uses sound waves to detect the ridges of your fingertip in 3D and allow for more accurate unlocks and be more secure than the optical fingerprint scanners on Huawei Mate 20.
Besides, the power button which on the right side of the phone comfortable to your reach, the volume rocker and dedicated Bixby voice assistant button is placed on the left side. The bottom part houses the USB Type-C port for charging and data sharing, a 3.5mm audio jack, primary microphone, and speaker grill.
Galaxy S10 Plus measures in 157.6 x 74.1 x 7.8mm and 175g in weighs which is little heavy but can be manageable.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus ships with a 19:9 aspect ratio type 6.4-inch super AMOLED display of 16M colors, 1440×3040 pixel density and 526ppi pixel density.
To provide you full view experience Samsung has shortened the top-bezel and with Infinity-O display, the screen-to-body ratio now reaches 93.1%.
As we know Samsung is not a big conveyor of the notch display like the other manufacturers. But we saw the change in Galaxy M-series as company first time introduced infinity-V-display in its mid-range smartphones.
This time in the Galaxy S10 Plus, Samsung has avoided using a notch cut out at the top instead it uses the punch-hole design in the top-right corner to embeds two front-facing cameras. The hole is a bit wider in the S10 Plus than the S10 and S10e as it carries two front cameras instead of one.
The punch hole or you can say the new design notch sits in line with the notification bar, but it doesn’t get in the way at all when it comes to general usage. Unless you play some videos or games or use any white background apps where it is a little distracting.
It is also clear that this is the first phone which supports HDR10+ for superior contrast and color. It not only give you better looking HDR video but also ensures for better outdoor visibility.
The coolest trick Samsung put into effect in Galaxy S10 is the ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor. This replaces the rear-mounted sensor on the previous generation of the device and follows the path of Huawei and OnePlus in putting the tech under the display.
It looks like the infinity-O-display is Samsung’s new trend for 2019. Considering the size of the phone, you will able to wrap your hands around this big screen.
Camera And Sensor
The triple camera array on the back of Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus includes a 12MP primary sensor with optical-image-stabilization (OIS) and a variable aperture that can shift between f/1.5 for night clicks to f/2.4 for the day shots, along with a 16MP ultrawide sensor of aperture f/2.2 which can capture 123° field view and, lastly, a 12MP telephoto sensor with aperture f/2.4.
With the triple rear camera setup, Samsung enables 5X wide-angle shots and 2X optical zoom. Some other features it includes like AI scene detection, super slow motion video recording, portrait mode. Samsung also includes blur filters such as artistic, spin, zoom and color point. AR Emojis and Bixby Vision are also there. These features are really amazing.
Point to be Note that the Galaxy S10 Plus lack in dedicated Night mode – a feature which has become increasingly popular on other Android phones. For example, Google’s Night Sight, which not only improves but also brightens low-light shots by capturing multiple shots in varying exposures and combining them together.
On the front in the pill-shaped punch hole, there is a 10MP primary sensor of aperture f/1.9 with dual pixels PDAF which equipped with an 8MP depth sensor of aperture f/2.2. It allows for better portrait shots and is exclusive in the Samsung’s S10 Plus variant.
Apart from the in-display fingerprint sensor, S10 Plus also includes an accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity, compass, barometer, heart rate, SpO2.
Processor And Performances
The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus is powered by 8nm based Exynos 9820 octa-core processor or by the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 chipset based on country. But in India, the Exynos version will make its way.
The presence of Mali-G76 MP12 graphics processor will ensure that the phone runs smoothly and can easily handle most intensive applications without signs of any lag.
S10 Plus model starts with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Samsung doesn’t even look for 64GB storage anymore and it also includes a slot for micro SD card slot for storage expansion up to 512GB. So, it is clear that in future you won’t able to face any issue with storage capacity if you use the Galaxy S10+ model.
All Samsung’s latest flagship smartphones run over Android 9 Pie and One UI skin on top. We have already seen the one UI on the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9 smartphones, and it features big icons, and with frequently used items on first party apps pushed down towards the bottom of the screen to easier the one-handed usage.
There are also new icons everywhere with the support for a system-wide dark mode, it looks great on the OLED display. The digital wellbeing feature which was missing earlier now has been added. Overall, it’s a big step forward by Samsung in the software section.
Battery And Connectivity
The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus backed with an impressive all-day-long 4100mAh battery under the hood. It also supports fast charging over USB Type-C, wireless fast charging with up to 30% faster.
With the help of reverse wireless charging where you can use the Galaxy S10+ as a power bank and wirelessly charge compatible devices like smartwatch and Galaxy Buds earphones and also wireless charging supported phones.
